Position Title: Manufacturing Operator

Job Description

This position offers advancement opportunities, where the right candidate will be trained for increasing responsibilities.

We will be screening candidates with machine operating backgrounds. Perform duties to setup and operate a limited range of spring coiling machines, ovens and grinders, within assigned area of responsibility in accordance with job specifications, established quality standards and production rates.

  • Maintain, set up and operate industrial equipment
  • Manufacture high-quality springs following safety rules
  • Spring Manufacturing Process
    1. Review manufacturing order, job card and print to determine machine to set, material needs, spring configuration and dimensions
    2. Request material required and verifies material received with job print for accuracy
    3. Pull required tooling based on wire size
    4. Tear down previous setup and place tools in proper location
    5. Plan setup, locate, position and secure tooling in place, (place wire coil on payoff reel and feed into machine)
    6. Run sample springs to set proper outside and/or inside diameter, amount of wire feed, variable diameters, pitch and type of spring ends, and make necessary diameter, tooling and feed adjustments
    7. Check and submit sample springs to supervisor and Quality Department for approval to run job
    8. Operate and monitor machine operation, inspect and chart part dimensions and load as required, and make necessary machine adjustments to maintain part quality standards
    9. Stress relieve springs as prescribed if in-line oven is used
    10. Move material to grinding or inspection area with required paperwork and arrange for excess material to be returned to stock
    11. Notify supervisor or designated personnel of unusual part, equipment or material problems

    Responsibilities

    The primary responsibility of the Manufacturing Operator is to produce metal fabricated parts to customer print specifications using a standard process.

    • Follow safety rules
    • Keep work area in a clean and orderly condition
    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial machines and building
    • Properly and safely use machine tools, micrometers, caliper, load test equipment, gauge pins, height gauge, comparator and hand tools
    • Operate fork lift, hand truck, hand pallet jack and other similar equipment
    • Operates precision production machinery, systems and processes for manufacturing springs
    • Follows blueprints, guidelines and diagrams to ensure product specifications and tolerance levels are met
    • Clean, calibrate and maintain machines before and after each shift
    • Monitor machines during every procedure to ensure optimum running
    • Troubleshoot problems during machine operation
    • Ensure that regular and preventative maintenance procedures are carried out
    • Perform measurements and tests to ensure accuracy
    • Ensure stocks of needed materials are ready and available at all times
    • Create and maintain activity logs
    • Labeling work in process parts and finished parts according to ISO policy
    • Checks quality of product in process and finished products
    • Perform other related duties as assigned
    • This postion has no supervisory responsibilities
    • Works under immediate supervision, and reports to a manager

    • The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. Must be able to work with small objects
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must be able to pass an eye exam on an annual basis
    • Physical agility and good hand-eye coordination
    • Knowledge of safe machine operation practices
    • Capable of standing, walking and/or sitting, as required for full shift
    • Ability to exert physical effort required to handle material and tools, as well as frequently and properly lift or move up to 50 pounds
    • Ability to perform with continuous mental and visual attention required to setup and operate automatic coiling machine, involving repetitive or diversified work requiring constant alertness or activity, regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and a usually loud noise level in the work environment
    • Experience with basic metal cutting and shaping tools

    Requirements

    • Candidates MUST be able to pass a drug screen and federal background check
    • Education: High school diploma
    • Experience: Minimum of 1 year with one company and must have machine or production background. Operates machinery, systems and processes. Computer controlled machine programming, precision measurement, process and machine trouble-shooting, problem-solving, machine maintenance and proficient use of diagnostic and statistical tools
    • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate percentages in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
    • Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
    • Communication:
      • Ability to speak effectively before team and management members in the organization
      • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
      • Ability to read, measure and comprehend simple two dimensional drawings
      • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
